The August long weekend marked the start of 6060’s operating season for 2009. Thanks largely to the efforts by the volunteer maintenance crews, the engine ran flawlessly for three consecutive runs on Aug 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd.   During each stopover, RMRS volunteers were on hand in Big Valley to man our display/souvenir tent and offer free speeder rides along the pass track.

A special ceremony was held on August 3^rd, where the 6060 was officially declared an Alberta Historic Resource. RMRS volunteer Bob Leinweber was also named the recipient if this year’s Spirit of Alberta award, in recognition of all of his contributions in recent years, particularly his involvement with mechanical repairs over this last winter and spring.
