Canada Day Celebrations
Rocky Mountain Rail Society will be celebrating its tenth year as part of Calgary Canada Committee. This year the RMRS will begin celebrating Canada's 140th birthday beginning at 11:00 am July 1st at Alstom Transport (The former Ogden shops) at 7550 Ogdendale Road SE, Calgary.
This year there will be dislplays of and free train rides including a short ride behind CPR steam locomotive 2816, the Empress.

Canadian Railway Hall of Fame
On April 25, 2004, GW Travel of England brought their Trans Canada Tour (CPR 2816-Vancouver to Montreal) to Stettler. Engines 6060 and 41 provided a fine show. Run by's were performed with both locomotives doing run by's at Warden with first either a freight or a passenger consist, then switching and doing further run by's.
On a nice sunny day, the tour passengers had a great day photographing and filming the action.
After getting underway to Big Valley, the train was held up by the Bolton Gang. A bad group that specializes in train hold-up's.
Following a fine luncheon at Big Valley, they boarded their train and once again at Warden, they disembarked and caught another run by with 6060 and the passenger train consist.

On Sunday, 22 September when 6060, with Harry Home at the throttle, brought the Alberta Prairie Steam Tours train into Big Valley, a ceremony honoring Harry Home's induction as one of the four first ever inductees to the Hall of Fame - Heroe's category took place. S.I. Smith, Vice President, Northwest Region, of Rail America Inc. spoke outlining Harry's many achievements and the reasons for his induction into the Hall of Fame. He was followed by Les Kozma, Chairman of the Railway Hall of Fame, who presented Harry with his award.
Brian Kalin, CNR Superintendent for Central Alberta spoke next and as part of his address, stated that to commemorate Harry's many contributions to CNR, that on the next Time Table change this December, the name "Jasper West" 0.4 miles on the Albreda Subdivision would be renamed "Home".
Don Gillespie, President of Alberta Prairie Steam Tours presented Harry and Edna Home with a life time pass on APST.
Harry was eloquent in his reply to the honor of being named to the Railway Hall of Fame.
A fine crowd of friends and the Canadian Railway industry were on hand to witness this very special and deserving award to Harry Home. For those of you who wish to contact Harry on his being named to the Railway Hall of Fame, you can email him at

RAILWAY HALL OF FAME
In his acceptance speech, Harry thanked the Canadian National Railway and stated how elated and deeply honored he was to have this station named after him. He stated he accepted this tribute with humility and also in recognition of his mother and father who had a long association with railroading. Harry's father being an engineer for many years. He also recognized the people of Jasper Park and the Rocky Mountain Rail Society for all their hard work in the preservation of 6060.
Those attending the ceremony were then invited to an open house at the CNR Yard Office where coffee, tea and cake was available for the pleasure of the large group in attendance. Of the two large cakes, one had a reproductioin of Mathew Wheeler's famous picture of "6060 East" crossing the Prairie Creek Bridge, October, 2001.
The Railway Association of Canada has created the RAILWAY HALL OF FAME, located at 29 Banks Street, Suite 1401, Ottawa, Ontario.
There are four categories - Leaders, Heroes, Communities and Technology. The Rocky Mountain Rail Society is proud to announce that Harry Home(Mr.6060) has been inducted into the "Heroes" award category.
As the press release states "Harry Home has not only been a driving force behind the preservation of this (6060) important piece of Canadian heritage, he has also continued to inspire others with his passion, dedicatioin and enthusiasm for railroading and the Canadian railway industry" says Les Kozma, Chairman of the Canadian Railway Hall of Fame.
"Harry's contribution to his community, his fellow employees throughout his career and to Canada's railway heritage will be fittingly recognized with his induction into the Railway Hall of Fame. He is a true railway hero." said Mr.Kozma.

In recognition of Harry Home being inducted into the Railway Association Hall of Fame, Hero class, the Canadian National Railway renamed Station Jasper West to CN HOME.

A special gathering of a large group of well wishers met at Mile 0.4 on the Albreda Subdivision to commemorate and celebrate this well deserved honor. On a pleasant and crisp morning many people attended this special event.With Mt.Edith Cavell, Mt.Pyramid and Mt. Whistler looking down on this gathering, Transportation Supervisor-Pacific Division-lberta Zone, Greg Cronkright removed the cover from the new station name board. Mr.Cronkright announced that as displayed, the new name for the station was "Home". The new CNR time tables now show this change of name.
